Following a successful debut at Steinway Piano Gallery in July, the irresistible combination of strings & drums in CutTime Simfonica returns to warm up the Steinway Piano Gallery this winter, with some of the hottest classical and crossover adventures available, including Beethoven’s 5th Symphony (opening) and Rick Robinson’s City of Trees and Pork ‘n Beans. Robinson is a remarkable bassist, formerly in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 22 years, where he began to arrange and revolutionize classical music in restaurants and clubs so everyone would feel welcomed and involved. Don’t miss his clever transcriptions of short, actual symphonic works, including music by Joplin, Duke Ellington, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and of course Mozart, celebrating his 275th birthday. The audience actually gets to join in (on cue) with soft eggshakers and toy percussion.
At once profound and funny, CutTime’s lively interpretations create a refreshing conversation with classical and especially symphonic music. Don’t miss this unique opportunity as Robinson is joined by violinists Dan Winnick and Joe Deller, violist Leslie DeShazor and drummer Mike List.
